Salt Lake City to Host the 2008 JACL Convention

The 40th Biennial National JACL Convention will be held from July 16-20, 2008 at the Salt Lake Downtown Marriott in Salt Lake City, Utah..  This year’s convention theme:  “Legacy of Leadership” will highlight the accomplishments and history of the organization in the pursuit of justice and equality.  JACL will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 with special activities and events highlighting the JACL campaign for redress. Anti Hate Program

The JACL Anti-Hate Program responds to incidents of defamation and hate crimes and promotes the values of tolerance and diversity in our schools, businesses and communities.

National Youth Student Council

01.24.2008 – In a statement released today, National Director Floyd Mori announced the resignation of Vice President of Membership, Edwin T. Endow.

01.24.2008 – Letter sent to Spokane County Superior Court Judge Robert D. Austin in support of a motion for a new trial based upon allegations of racial bias against the plaintiffs attorney, Mark D. Kamitomo.

01.22.2008 – The JACL announced the selection of Naomi Lim as the first Daniel K. Inouye Fellow.  A graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, Ms. Lim will spend approximately seven months in the Washington, D.C. office of the JACL.

12.03.2007 – The National Youth/Student Council is now accepting bids to host the 2009 National Youth Conference.  This is an opportunity for Chapters and Districts to recruit and encourage youth to get involved in organizing and planning an event hosted by their local Chapter and the NY/SC.

11.26.2007 – Applications now available for the JACL/OCA Washington, D.C. Leadership Conference.  The annual 4-day conference provides an opportunity for thirty emerging leaders of the JACL and OCA to learn firsthand about current national public policy issues facing our communities.  The 2008 conference will be held from February 29 through March 3, 2008.
